Awakenings (1974), trailer

Produced by Duncan Duncan for Yorkshire Television, this documentary was broadcast in the UK as the pilot episode of Discovery (1974). It features archival footage and interviews with Oliver Sacks and his patients at Beth Abraham Hospital, New York five years after the summer of 1969, when Sacks began treating some of his patients with post-encephalitic syndromes with L-Dopa, a drug known to ameliorate other parkinsonian conditions.  The documentary followed Sacks’ publication of Awakenings (1973).
